Marijuana plants feature tiny holes on the underside of their leaves – known as stomata – where CO2 enters and water vapor escapes, creating oxygen from this exchange process.
Indica
A cannabis plant’s number of leaves can reveal much about itself and help identify various strains, as well as identify any issues with your grow. Indica strains typically feature seven to 13 “fingers” per leaf to absorb more light quickly and speed up flowering time; their dense branches make them perfect for SCROG grow operations.
Sativa strains typically feature long and delicate leaves and have lighter hues, standing taller than their indica counterparts and taking six months or longer for their growth cycle to conclude.
Too many leaves on a plant can prevent its buds from receiving enough light and cause them to droop as a sign of water shortage. If this problem arises, topping and LST techniques can often correct it; otherwise it might require transplanting or repotting to restore proper functioning of the canopy.
Sativa
Cannabis seeds that germinate produce two cotyledon leaves that collect sunlight to enable their plant to flourish, providing energy until its time for it to produce its first set of true leaves.

Leaves of cannabis plants play an essential role in storing water and nutrients. When exposed to drought conditions, their leaves become yellow or brown as the plant has used up its reserves from these leaves as an easy means of reaching all its cells with fresh water taken up through roots.
Hybrid
Cannabis leaves serve as primary storage facilities for water and nutrients, acting as emergency supplies when necessary (i.e. nutrient deficiency or fungal infestation). When these reserves are drawn upon by the plant, yellowed leaves indicate an issue exists within.

This practice helps decrease the likelihood of fungal infection; however, if this practice becomes careless it could spread powdery mildew which should then be pruned off carefully to stop further spread.
